3-Days Tour: Fes – Ziz Valley – Sahara Desert – Fes
Day 1: Fes – Ifrane – Midelt – Ziz Valley – Merzouga Desert – Camel Trek & Overnight in Desert Camp
We’ll pick you up from your hotel or riad in Fes and begin our journey south through the Middle Atlas Mountains. Our first stop is in Ifrane, often called the « Switzerland of Morocco » due to its alpine-style architecture and clean mountain air. We then continue to Azrou, a charming Berber town nestled in the cedar forests, where you may encounter Barbary macaques.
Our drive continues through Midelt and the Tizi N’Talghemt Pass, offering dramatic views of the surrounding mountains and valleys. After lunch in Errachidia, we follow the lush Ziz Valley, dotted with palm groves and kasbahs, before reaching the desert town of Merzouga by late afternoon.
You’ll be greeted with traditional mint tea before setting off on a camel trek into the dunes of Erg Chebbi, guided by an experienced camel handler. Enjoy the peaceful sunset over the golden sands before reaching your Berber-style desert camp. Dinner will be served under the stars, with overnight accommodation in a private tent.
Day 2: Merzouga Exploration – Nomad Families – Tissardmine Oasis – Khamlia Village – Erg Chebbi
Wake early for a breathtaking sunrise over the dunes—a truly unforgettable sight. After returning by camel to the hotel, enjoy a hearty breakfast before setting off to explore the desert region.
We begin by circling the Erg Chebbi dunes, including a stop at the Tissardmine Oasis, an area known for its fossil-rich land. Continuing along the former Paris–Dakar rally route, we’ll visit nomadic families living in the region to learn about their traditional lifestyle.
Next, we stop at a panoramic viewpoint to admire the full scale of the dunes, then head to the village of Khamlia, home to people originally from Mali. Here, you’ll enjoy a traditional tea and live performance of Gnawa music, a soulful spiritual genre rooted in African heritage.
Return to your accommodation in Merzouga for a relaxing afternoon. You may explore the dunes on your own, enjoy the sunset, or simply unwind at the hotel. Dinner and overnight at your hotel.
Day 3: Merzouga – Ziz Valley – Cedar Forest – Ifrane – Fes
After breakfast, we begin our return journey to Fes. The route passes through the Tafilalet palm grove, one of the largest in the world, and follows the Ziz River, which nurtures this lush valley.
We’ll stop at a high scenic viewpoint in Aoufous to admire the panoramic landscape, then continue to Midelt, where you’ll have free time for lunch. In the afternoon, we pass through the cedar forests near Azrou, hoping to see the playful Barbary monkeys in their natural habitat.
Our final stop is Ifrane, a resort town known for its European charm, clean streets, and alpine-style buildings. Often referred to as “Morocco’s Switzerland,” it’s also home to the Michlifen ski resort.
By early evening (around 6 PM), we arrive back in Fes and transfer you to your hotel or riad.
