3-Day Journey from Marrakech to Merzouga – A Desert Escape to Remember

Day 1: Marrakech – High Atlas Mountains – Aït Ben Haddou – Ouarzazate – Rose Valley – Dades Gorges

Your journey begins at 8 AM with a departure from Marrakech heading towards the High Atlas Mountains, crossing the scenic Tizi N’Tichka pass. Along the way, you’ll enjoy panoramic stops and views of traditional Berber villages nestled into the mountainside.

Our first major stop is the UNESCO-listed village of Aït Ben Haddou, a famous film location for movies like Gladiator and The Mummy. After lunch, we continue to Ouarzazate, the « Gateway to the Desert », where we visit the stunning Taourirt Kasbah.

We then travel through the lush Skoura palm grove and reach the Rose Valley, known for its fragrant Damascene roses and cultural festival. The day ends in the dramatic Dades Valley, where you’ll spend the night.

Day 2: Dades Gorges – Todra Gorges – Merzouga Dunes – Camel Trek and Night in the Desert Camp

After breakfast, take in spectacular views over the Dades Valley before heading to the towering Todra Gorges – a natural wonder and popular climbing destination.

We then drive towards the golden dunes of Merzouga. Upon arrival, a one-hour camel ride takes you into the heart of the Erg Chebbi desert. Watch the sunset over the dunes and enjoy a traditional dinner under the stars at a Berber-style desert camp.

Day 3: Merzouga – Ziz Valley – Cedar Forest of Azrou – Ifrane – Fes

Wake early to witness a breathtaking sunrise over the dunes, then return to Merzouga for breakfast. The journey continues north through the vast palm groves of Tafilalet and the picturesque Ziz Valley.

After a lunch stop in Midelt, we cross the Middle Atlas Mountains, passing through the cedar forests of Azrou—home to wild Barbary macaques. Our final stop is the alpine town of Ifrane, often called the “Switzerland of Morocco,” before reaching Fes by evening, marking the end of your unforgettable desert adventure.
